HCCZ has a new chairman! It is Petr Hermann, representative of the royal town Litoměřice

Spring meeting of HCCZ General Assembly took place in Jihlava on April 19, 2011. Important topics related with Healthy City Project and Local Agenda 21 as well as other association's services and topics have been discussed at the meeting. Election of new association's leaders was one of principal items of the General Meeting's agenda. From the nominated candidates there have been selected nine representatives of active and quality proceeding cities or regions, from whose ranks the new association's chairman was also selected. The new chairman is Petr Hermann, representing the Healthy City Litomerice. HCCZ General Meeting also approved the association's economic results for 2010 or Annual Report for 2010.

In Dobris there was a Round Table on the subject of Safe Journey to School

Another Children's Round Table on the subject of "Safe Journey to School" took place with participation of town authorities and specialised organisation's representatives in Dobris on April 28. The event was attended by approximately 60 children who discussed the traffic safety measures. Children split themselves into groups and equipped with map materials they evaluated traffic hazards of specific locations in the city and proposed measures for improving safety. At each table there was available a representative of expert public with whom the solution could be discussed. Consequently, children presented their solutions in public. In conclusion, the mayor informed the children as to how their solutions would be dealt with.

Spring School of Healthy Cities and Regions took place in Litomerice

Another HCCZ School, which is a part of official accredited education for Local Agenda 21 and Healthy City coordinators, took place in the Healthy City Litomerice on March 30 - April 1, 2011. The spring school started with a discussion seminar, this time dedicated mainly to sharing of experience and best practices in the practice of sub-regions and local action groups. For this reason, the National Network of Local Action Groups along with HCCZ also actively participated in the event.

The Healthy Cities, Municipalities and Regions to join the Earth Day Campaign again

The Earth Day is the most extensive international campaign dedicated to environmental protection. The first Earth Day took place in the United States of America on April 22, 1970. The campaign currently takes place in 192 countries and more than one billion people from the whole world participate in the activities. In the Czech Republic, the Earth Day celebrations have been taking place for more than 20 years. This year's campaign will be also joined by the Healthy Cities, Municipalities and Regions, which would host educational events dedicated to environmental study and protection, but also to eco-fairs, spring cleaning or events focused on the issue of energy savings.

Another four Healthy City Forums took place in March

Healthy City Forum is a meeting where public representatives identify 10P - ten problems considered most burning in the location of their residence. The order of problems is consequently verified by public enquiries and then forwarded to the municipal, regional or city district representatives. Each meeting with the public checks, whether city, municipal or regional management dealt with the problems from the last Forum in appropriate manner. The citizens' interest gradually shifts to problems, whose solution is really lies within the authority of the given municipality or region.

Children's Forum of the Healthy City enables engagement of the young generationin local affairs

Last year there was "Children's Forum or Ten Problems of Litomerice Town Through the Eyes of Basic School and High School Students". This successful event and similar children's meeting in the Healthy City of Dobris are followed by another Children's Healthy City Forums this year. Workers from the environmental educational centre SEVER, who have extensive experience in work with children and environmental education, help with preparation of meetings in other Healthy Cities. HCCZ pays this collaboration to the cities from the ROZMArIN Project, supported from MoE Revolving Fund.

Healthy Cities won prizes of the Ministry of the Environment for quality and innovation in public administration

Successful procedures of local governments in the field of quality of public administration have been officially awarded by the CZ Minister of Interior. Within the framework of the 7th National Conference of Quality in Public Administration in Chrudim, there was an awarding ceremony of the Ministry of Interior's Prizes for Quality and Innovation in Public Administration for 2010. Members of the Healthy Cities of the Czech Republic were very successful.

New publication offers inspiration from Switzerland and Czech Republic for cities and regions

A new publication that contains inspiring examples of best practice from municipalities and regions, both from Switzerland and Czech Republic, was created owing to collaboration of Healthy Cities, Municipalities and Regions of the Czech Republic with the Swiss Association Equiterre. Both countries can boast a number of demonstration activities that fulfil the principles of sustainable development and support the inhabitants' health and quality of life.

Representatives of Healthy Cities from the whole Europe will meet in Liege, Belgium

Another meeting of Healthy Cities networks from the European countries will take place on June 15–18. Participants of the meeting will discuss the priorities of V. phase of WHO Healthy City Project, the new programme of World Health Organisation (WHO) for European Region titled "Health 2020" as well as other topics related with public health support on the local level.

Healthy Cities' Forums - meetings with the public over the local most burning problems

Healthy Cities' Forums have already started. In these events citizens identify the 10 Top Problems”- considered to be the most burning and important ones on the local or regional level. These problems or plans are thereafter verified by public enquiries and forwarded to the municipal, regional or city district representatives. In the year 2010 HCCZ has organized and has assisted to 40 events of this type all over the country.

The „Partnership Foundation“: Win the Title of City of Trees!

Partnership Foundation announces the sixth year of the "City of Trees" competition. The competition, taking place under the auspices of the Ministry of the Environment, can be newly joined by all cities in Czech Republic The task of the applying cities is to prepare a year-round campaign for public, inspired by trees and environment.
